Wedding Traditions

The word wed comes from the Greek word for pledge. This is exactly what a wedding is and the country where it comes from doesn't matters as well as any other detail, this works for all weddings, all over the world. The wed is the same in every country: to pledge yourself to your lover, to another person.  Wedding traditions are different in different places and countries, but the wedding as a life event is one of the most pure and beautiful.

Our marriage is the most special and solemn pledge you make during our lifetime. There's nothing more solemn than this. Wedding traditions say that the wedding pledge is made public in front of family and friends that will also attend the event. The wedding pledge has to be faithful, true, honest and loving to another person, the one that stole your heart. The most solemn promises are carried in a marriage and it also embodies the greatest human joy: two hearts as one. Wedding traditions are all about love and faithfulness from one to another.

Are you informed about your wedding traditions? Do you have the old item, the new one, the borrowed one and the blue one ready? If you don't, don't freak out? Go on with the reading and you will find some original ideas about wedding traditions.

Have you ever asked yourself why the soon to be married couple invites their families and close friends to the wedding party? This is a wedding tradition and it has its roots in Ancient Roman times. There were also some of the women asked to dress as the bride so the evil spirits will be confused, so no one will be able to kidnap the bride. You may have heard this tradition in stories as well. This is what kings did when their princess daughter got married.

They had more princesses but just one was the true one. It's a good strategy to protect the bride from negative spirits. Nowadays we have this wedding tradition too but it's quite changes. We have the bridesmaid who dress the same but not as the bride. They are the bride's protectors and they also bring good luck. Besides all, the bride and her maids together it's a great picture to take. The best man and the other groomsmen' have its role as well. Because in Ancient time brides weren't too willing to party, they would be stolen by the grooms and his groomsmen.

The bridal shower is also a very important part in wedding traditions. If today the bridal shower is a party for both the bride and groom, in the past it was a gathering for the bride and just with the bride. The groom wasn't invited and the wedding tradition says that he shouldn't participate. The goal of this gathering with family and close friends was to put some stress on the bride regarding the wedding nuptials.

The first change for the bridal shower nowadays is that it was a party just for women but now the men can attend it as well. It depends on the bride, she decides. She gets presents and the girls have girls' talks, of course. The new stuff nowadays, besides men attending the event is the bridal shower games. These can get as sexual as you want; it's your decision and your friends' decision as well. But the best thing about the bridal shower today is that it's all about giving the new couple gifts that will help them to start their life together.

Another item that shows and stands for wedding tradition is the wedding cake. The cake is not just a cake and its goal is not just to provide a sweet end to the wedding reception. It's more than this. For example in Roman times the bride had to do not the most elegant thing you may say: a small cake had to be smashed into her head and this symbolized fertility.

The guests were involved too because they would pick up the cake pieces from the floor and they would keep them for luck. Nowadays no cakes will spoil the bride's beauty or hairstyle but it will surely make guests smile when they taste it. Beside the cake can be the one that show your passions and creativity. There are a lot of couples that love wedding tradition but they just want to have a unique wedding cake. This is not a problem at all, use your imaginations, this is why you have it.A much known wedding tradition is carrying the bride over the threshold. This is done before the couple enters their new home where they will start the new life together. Why does the groom have to do this? Because the wedding tradition says that it's very unlucky if the bride trips. So carrying her is safer and more romantic as well.

In the beginning of the article I've said something about something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. This wedding tradition is the one that is the most popular. A lot of brides chose to wear the item I've mentioned before. The something old is usually a piece of jewelry, a pair of earrings or a beautiful necklace that has been the family's heirloom for years.

The something new is usually the wedding dress. But there are brides that would buy a second hand wedding dress or a vintage wedding dress so they will go for something else as the new item. The wedding tradition doesn't say what kind of items you should wear so you can chose anything, you just need to have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.  The something borrowed and something blue can be anything, from a ring to a headpiece. Some brides like having blue accents on their white wedding dress. It's up to you.

Wedding traditions are fun and if you want to have fun you should incorporate some of these wedding traditions in your wedding, if not all of them. Don't you want your groom to carry you over the threshold? I knew you wanted it!
