The wedding cake is one of the most enjoyable moments in a wedding. Everybody is waiting for the wedding cake and when the wedding cake appears, usually it makes its appearance with a show. It may be fireworks, a nice song, flames or anything else.  Wedding cakes are the traditional cake that is served at a wedding reception, probably everybody knows this. What you might not know is the fact that a wedding cake is not just a cake; it’s the representation of the couple’s passions and style. Try to analyze a little a wedding cake when you go to a wedding and you will discover a lot of things about the happy couple.

The perfect wedding cake needs to have two qualities: to be beautiful, to look amazing; and to taste even more amazing. Nowadays the wedding cake is considered the etiquette of the whole wedding. The new trend nowadays is to have all your wedding in a line, so if you chose a wedding theme go with the wedding theme for all your wedding arrangements. It will look organized and very pretty. Usually traditional wedding cakes are white and round. They are simple, no sophisticated arrangements are needed. Usually there is one tier for very simple wedding cake. A lot of brides chose to accent these traditional wedding cakes with silk or real flowers that go with their wedding colors. The cake toppers in the case of traditional couples are usually a bride and a groom holding hands, kissing etc.

Even if there are lots of brides that still go with the traditions there some new ones that like funky and new stuff. They opt for interesting andnew arrangements and they even chose colored wedding cakes.  The wedding cake is the most important eye catcher of the reception so it’s normal to want something truly spectacular, be careful not too exaggerate too much, even if it’s hard for me to see the exaggeration nowadays, when anything is possible. You either succeed in making everybody to talk about your wedding cake or in making them not even notice it. So, try to keep it simple but amazing in the same time.

While butter cream frosting has been so popular in the past today the couples chose to use all kinds of frostings, the ones that are managed easier or the ones that their wedding designer wants. Anyway what’s sure is that butter cream frosting is not as popular as it was. Now rolled fondant frosting or ice frostings are much more popular. Even if they are more expensive, they are so popular because they are so easy to intricate details in them and also to crave them in any shapes out there. So nowadays it’s possible to have your wedding cake in any shape you want.

The only thing you have to do is to pay, to tell your baker what you want and your wedding cake will be ready faster than you think. While the shapes depend on what the couple likes and what they wish for, the most popular flavors are: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry cream, Italian casada etc.  Called the sweet shape, are the ones that aren’t circular. Circular is considered to be traditional so what’s not traditional might be called sweet. Not the smartest thing in the world, but be more creative and show your guests that even a round wedding cake can be sweet.

Anyway, the shapes that are considered to be sweet are: sweetheart’s wedding cakes, hexagonal wedding cakes, column wedding cake, wedding cakes that look like gifts, etc. There are lots of designer that even accept to mixed shapes, so you could have a tower cake at your wedding. You can have an amazing tower cake that’s made out f many different shaped tiers that look like gifts. Each tier should have its own color and details, so the whole result will look amazing. It will look like a pile of gifts, waiting to be open.

Wedding cakes are true art for some people. If you want your wedding cake to be the start on your wedding reception you really need to prepare something very special. Use lots of color, make it funky, chose an unusual form. Don’t forget, if you hear people saying, that’s some funky wedding cake, take it as a compliment, because this is what it actually is. Be creative and use your imagination when planning how your wedding cake will look.
